I was approached by the Stourbridge Community Land Trust about producing a piece of artwork to represent the housing ladder becoming increasingly out of reach for millions of people. It is so very difficult for people to simply find an affordable place to rent these days, never mind buying a property.
After some discussion, i thought a ladder would be the obvious & relevant symbol to help illustrate the property ladder. The ladder would be reaching up into the clouds, as it seems for many people, finding an affordable property is an idea that seems ‘up in the clouds’.
There is a figure attempting to climb the property ladder and grasping for a property to let, but the property is a long way off and out of reach.
The Stourbridge Community land Trust stated that -
Creating new affordability in the housing market by building on niche brown field sites using modern sustainable construction methods and smart renewable energy systems is the way forward to addressing issues of health and wellbeing, productivity, climate change and ultimately social justice.
