I can be booked to deliver painting workshops for Art groups, Societies and Private groups across the UK.

Working in both Oils and Acrylics, the workshop will be taught through a series of demonstrations, one-to-one tuition and critiques of your work. I can guide you through a step-by-step approach to tackling a variety of subjects whilst explaining my method and the materials used. We will explore a variety of techniques for applying paint, including alternatives to brushes and palette knives. You will study and play with colour, light and textures, allowing for individual creative expression.

Testimonials

“ DJ is an inspirational, talented, positive and enigmatic artist and teacher. He has a rare and unwavering ability to arouse enthusiasm, positivity and optimism amongst all his students to enable them to improve, explore and ultimately shine. He has a zest for life and art that is contagious and attracts a loyal and keen following of all abilities. His flexible approach to tuition actually encourages disruption to tradition  by encouraging risk taking, rule breaking and boundary pushing. His students are happy to ditch the fear of rigidity and embrace the process of mark making, but within a supportive and feedback orientated environment. He paints along with his classes encouraging all to embrace 'happy accidents ' and repair unwanted results. All is done with smiles, encouragement and flair. His classes are overflowing with energy.  Priceless!" “

Helen Gornall - Artist & Director of ‘Chez Helene’ art studios and Plein air painting holidays in Annecy

“ I attended one of DJ's painting workshops and he was a breath of fresh air, as he has a way of teaching that is helpful, informative, and friendly. I also felt like I made progress. Another reason for me attending the workshop was to learn some new techniques to pass on to my own students. I soon realised that my students would respond well to DJ, so I asked him to do workshops at the school I work at. The students worked well for DJ and felt a sense of achievement. He is approachable and fun, a brilliant teacher. “

Diane Chase - Art Teacher

“ I first met Dj in 2017 when he came to give a demonstration to my local art group, The Bridgnorth & District Arts Society.  On this occasion he demonstrated painting the Aurora Borealis in oil paints.  He instantly engaged with his audience and the demo proved to be highly enjoyable for those attending, inspiring and popular event for our group. Shortly after this demo he was booked by our programme coordinator to deliver a full day workshop for our members.

Since then, DJ has returned to our society on a number of occasions to deliver further demos and full day workshops, involving a range of subjects including mountain landscapes and seascapes.  His demos and workshops are suitable for artists of all ability levels from beginners through to experienced professionals.  His approach is encouraging, while offering advice and support, but without ‘over-interfering’ in his students’ works or patronising them. DJ continues to be a firm favourite with our members.

I would have no hesitation in recommending DJ to any business, organisation or art group considering his services to deliver art demonstrations and workshops. Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. “

Sarah Burton - Secretary for The Bridgnorth & District Arts Society
