Intense sunlight illuminating the distant valley was my main challenge with this painting. Misty rays of light were applied over the background, followed by successive layers of burnt sienna, crimson and lilac/grey glazes. Thick, bold foreground textures lay the foundation and help to create a nice sense of depth and distance.
