Tashi Delek

This portrait is of a Tibetan monk who was guarding a temple in Dharamsala, in the Indian Himalaya. I was instantly struck by the strength of character in his weathered face, and the story that it seemed to tell. This portrait provided me with some interesting challenges, and by far the most difficult was his funky looking furry hat which took 2 frustrating days of painting before i was happy with the result.

Oil on canvas (100 x 120cm)
